- Smartcard Login
We recommend using the FED-LOGIN Access App and/or a security key.
These are secure and very user-friendly passwordless login methods. They meet high authentication quality standards (QoA50). Please note that password-based login methods will no longer be supported in FED-LOGIN in the long term.
Registering the FED-LOGIN Access App
With the FED-LOGIN Access App on your smartphone, you can log in by scanning a QR code shown in the web browser, or directly if the web browser of your mobile device is used. You can download the app from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android). Your Apple device must run iOS 12 or higher; your Android device must run Android 6 or higher.Link to instruction: FED-LOGIN - Access App registration
Registering Security Keys
In addition to or instead of the Access App, you may register up to four physical security keys (FIDO2). This is helpful in cases where smartphones are not desired, not technically possible, or not allowed.Link to instruction: FED-LOGIN – Register security key (FIDO2)
Registering a Second Factor with Password
Support for password-based login methods in FED-LOGIN will be discontinued soon. Users with a password and second-factor method will be required to use the Access App or security key.Registering a Second Factor with Password ▼

If you haven’t set a password yet, follow these steps:

- Register password.
Select Register Password in the note.
Read the important note; if you still wish to set up second-factor management, click Continue with Password.

- Smart card authentication.
Click Continue and re-authenticate using your smartcard. This is necessary for security reasons.

- Enter and confirm password.
Enter the password, confirm it, and click Continue.

- Enter confirmation code.
Enter the Confirmation code sent to your email and click Save.
A green popup message confirms the successful setup or update of your password.
Second Factor Selection
Please note that depending on the application, authentication quality requirements may vary. Mobile ID meets high standards (QoA50), while other second factors such as mTAN or Authenticator apps are rated lower (QoA40) and may be denied access to some applications. Registering Mobile ID ▼×
Requirements:
- FED-LOGIN supports (e)SIM-based Mobile ID, but not the Mobile ID APP.
- Mobile ID requires a next-generation SIM card, typically available free of charge from your provider.
- Note that except for Swisscom, most Swiss telecom providers do not support Mobile ID via eSIM. Please check with your provider whether they support Mobile ID on eSIM.
Registration:
Log in at MyAccoun

- Registering a second factor.
Under Login & Security, register your Mobile ID by clicking Register in the indicated tile.

- Mobile ID as a second factor.
Select the Mobile ID tile (default) and click Continue.

- Checking Mobile ID service compatibility.
In the next step, visit to check whether your mobile number is compatible with Mobile ID, and activate it if necessary. Once activated, click Continue.

- Entering the mobile phone number.
Enter your mobile device’s Phone number and click Save.

- Enter the mobile PIN on your smartphone.
You will be prompted to enter your personal Mobile ID PIN on your mobile device.

- Successful registration of the Mobile ID.
Your Mobile ID is now registered as a second factor.
You can now use FED-LOGIN from the internet without a smartcard with strong authentication (QoA50).
Log in outside the federal network via a device using your password + second factor.

- FED-LOGIN Register with the Mobile ID.

If your current Mobile ID stops working, you may need to replace it.
Follow these steps:
- Often, restarting your mobile phone is sufficient. This is especially true if Mobile ID worked previously but now shows the error: “Mobile ID is unfortunately not supported by this phone. (AA)”
- If that doesn’t help, contact your telecom provider’s support.
- If you receive a new SIM card, after activation of Mobile ID you will need to re-register it in eIAM MyAccount.
- Log in at eIAM MyAccoun
t and remove the existing Mobile ID registration.-
- FED-LOGIN Register with the FIDO security key.

- Then register the new Mobile ID in eIAM MyAccount following the instructions above.
We won’t go into detail here on the selection of second factors such as the Authenticator App or mobile number with mTAN, as they will soon no longer be applicable.
