Microsoft uses a proprietary protocol called MS-OFBA (Microsoft Office Forms Based Authentication) between MS-Office applications and SharePoint. This protocol requires a protocol client on the client side that is based on outdated IE7 technology. As this technology does not support many modern and widespread web browser features, in particular JavaScript, various problems have occurred in the past. These ranged from error messages when logging in to difficulties with single sign-on (multiple logins) to the complete uselessness of modern login methods.
Solution
To address these problems, eIAM developed a solution that requires only minimal functionality in the MS-OFBA protocol client. While the functions of the actual login take place entirely in the user's modern web browser and are therefore decoupled from the technical limitations of the MS-OFBA client.
The following instructions explain how to use this solution.
Authentication procedure
If you access an MS-Office document stored in the Federal Administration's SharePoint outside the Federal Administration's networks and authentication is required beforehand, the MS-Office application opens a pop-up window on your client.-

Note:
If it is not possible on your device to copy the URL to the clipboard using the ‘Copy URL’ button provided for this purpose, you can alternatively call up the following URL in your web browser and type in the displayed code manually.
