Verified AGOV-Login – Why?

Some online services of the Federal Administration require that the identity of the person using the service is clearly verified. The difference between a non-verified and a verified AGOV-Login lies in the fact that with a verified AGOV-Login, the identity of the person holding the AGOV account has been clearly established. This process involves that, as the AGOV account holder, you must personally prove your identity using a valid ID document (similar to signing a mobile phone contract or opening a bank account). The personal data you provided (first name, last name, date of birth, SSN (AHV) number) will be checked using your official ID and corrected if necessary. The identity verification takes place conveniently and remotely via video identification. This guide explains how to obtain a verified AGOV-Login (including a verified SSN (AHV) number).

How do I know if my AGOV-Login is verified?

In AGOV me, after logging in with your AGOV-Login, under the menu item “Personal details”, you can see which of your data has been verified. With a verified AGOV-Login, your first name, last name, date of birth, gender and nationality are verified. If the SSN (AHV) number has also been verified, the SSN (AHV) number and place of birth will likewise be shown as verified.

The examples below show the difference between a non-verified and verified AGOV-Login in AGOV me.

Video Identification – Preparation

Note: If you already have a verified AGOV login and your SSN (AHV) number still needs to be clarified, no new video identification is necessary. You can skip the video identification and start the subsequent verification of your SSN (AHV) number directly at the following link: Start verification

Your identity is verified in AGOV through video identification, and your SSN (AHV) number and place of birth are validated via the Central Compensation Office (ZAS). The verification is valid for 5 years. You must complete the video identification in person. Representation by others is not allowed.

To successfully complete the video identification, you will need:

  • A smartphone or physical security key (FIDO2) with which your AGOV-Login is registered.
    • If you haven’t registered an AGOV-Login yet, you’ll need one of the above devices to create and then verify your account.

  • Quiet environment with good lighting
    • Perform the video identification in a quiet space. Ensure proper lighting so both you and your ID document are clearly visible.
  • Device with internet connection, microphone, speaker, and camera
    • Video identification can be done in a web browser on a PC/laptop or using the IDnow app on a smartphone/tablet. Your device must have a microphone, speaker (or headset), and camera enabled.
  • Internet connection
    • Avoid VPNs or restricted networks (e.g. networks of companies or government agencies such as the federal administration network), as they may prevent access to the microphone or camera.
  • Accepted payment method
    • Video identification costs CHF 29.50 (incl. VAT).
      Accepted payment methods:

Instructions Verification

  • Ensure that the conditions under ‘Video identification – Preparation’ are met.
  • Log in with your existing AGOV-Login or register for a new AGOV-Login.
    • Help with logging in and registering can be found at AGOV help
  • After logging in with your AGOV-Login or registering your AGOV-Login, you will be guided through the video identification process. If you start a verification but your AGOV-Login already has the required verified level, a message will appear immediately after successful login informing you that registration and verification have been completed.
  • Once video identification has been successfully completed, your AGOV-Login will be verified and will meet the increased quality requirements for electronic identity for online services.
  • You can start verifying your AGOV-Login in your web browser by clicking on the following link:

  • Help with the verification process can be found at AGOV help

The following situations may arise during the video identification process:
  • The identity check is rejected because the identity document is invalid, incorrect information has been provided or you did not appear in person. If your identity is rejected, your registration will be automatically cancelled and you will have to register again for identity verification. You can initiate a new registration by logging in to the online service of the authority again with your AGOV-Login.
  • If the video identification is not carried out within 14 days of the registration date, the identity check will be automatically cancelled. You will then have to register again for identity verification.
